Todd's reason for not maintaining the web site on rigging Hogarthian...
(click on the "Back" button to return to the previous page)
Hi all. I've decided to take down the pages about gear rigging I've been maintaining for a few years now. The primary reason is simply time -- I haven't been able to allocate the time necessary to bring them completely up-to-date, and as such I was allowing some less then optimal information to remain online. That's no good for anybody.
A second reason is that there's less of a need for the pages than when I first put them up in 1996. My goal at that time was to present a relatively "complete" site describing how to assemble basic cave diving gear -- the information available online then was scattered, and gear was taken from numerous sources and modified to meet divers' needs for simplicity and durability. Both information and gear are easier to obtain now:
Global Underwater Explorers was formed, offering by far the best source of training and information about diving, and cave/technical diving in particular. I urge you to support GUE, and to explore their web site and mailing lists. The wealth of accumulated information and experience within GUE is extraordinary.
Extreme Exposure and Halcyon teamed together to create uncompromising high-quality dive gear that wasn't being made elsewhere. While it's still possible to piece together pretty decent dive gear from the old sources, it is no longer necessary or optimal.
As for gear rigging information on the web, I encourage you to peruse that from GUE, Halcyon, and the WKPP. The Doing it Rightvideos are also a fantastic source of information (get them through EE).
So, with that in mind, bye for now... and thank you!
